Putaruru Golf Club Report for Insertion in the South Waikato News Wednesday 20 July 2005.

Men's Report
This week was a bit of an anticlimax.  After the highs and the new low lows of last weeks wooden spoon trip, this week was a bit quiet.  There was still hushed discussion on the infamous 13 point record for the spoon, faint praise for Piopio Aria as a good country track, and all the tales of glory and calamity of the day, all growing faster than Pinocchioís nose!!

On Saturday, Tony Muller continued his fine form from Piopio with a 45 point haul and + 8 on bogey to now lead the Stratson cup ranks.  Nipping on his heels are Brad Karl +6, Roger Clothier and Hooky Howard on +5, and Terry Garnett and Neville Dugan on +4.

In the Prebble Cup Holders scramble on Saturday, Hooky Howard took out division 1 with 41 points, 2nd Ron Taylor, 3rd Ian Worth, 4th Mike Karl and 5th Terry Garnett all on 39 points, and Maurice Tricker 38.

In division 2 Tony Muller was first, 2nd Neville Dugan 42, 3rd Gary Urbahn 41, 4th Brad Karl 40, Lance Hay and Merv Samuel 39.  Elayne OíLeary won the Ladies with 31 and Lance Hay scored the only 2 on the 10th

Captain Ding has reintroduced the bar voucher as a scramble prize and proved to be very popular on the day among patrons.  The fund raising is moving along with calf rearing and volunteer donations coming in a steady stream.  What is the Putaruru Golf Association?  And finally, take a look at the Golf Gazette this month.  Putaruru has a fair old coverage, and itís good to see!!  No, I did not choose the photos, and I guess this is my 15 minutes of fame.

Ladies Report
There wasn't a large field on Tuesday; maybe the reason was the school holidays or even the overnight rain.  But those that did play were rewarded with a fine, cold winterís day. Competitions for the 18 hole golfers were Monthly Medal and Putting Button.  In the 0-18.4 division, Denise Hunt had a great round, with an 80 off the stick and nett 65, Irene McIvor and Margaret Ranger came in with nett 74ís.  In 18.5-30.4 division Anne Kensington would be happy with her nett 69, Florence Jellard 74 and Cheryl Jones 78. In the 30.5-40.4 division Bev Macartney had nett 75, Margaret Karl 79 and Betty Swanson 80.

The Putting Button results were Anne Kensington with 27 putts and Bev Macartney with 31 putts in their respective divisions (0-30 and 31-54).  Denise Hunt was the only player with a two and she also won the Monthly Medal with 65 nett.

The 9 Holerís played Round 5 Putting. Dulcie McLean had 17 putts, Cecily Duxfield 19 and Ethne Dodd 20.

A field of 26 players turned up on Thursday for the Vets. In the ladies scramble Irene McIvor" burnt" the course up with 43 points, Cheryl Jones 39 and Bev Macartney 38. In the menís division, Gary Urbahn had 39, Keith Hunt 38 and Ross Jellard 37.
