Putaruru Golf Club Report for Insertion in the South Waikato News Wednesday 10 August 2005.

Men's Report
The mighty, the haughty and the humble all fell in Saturday’s round of the Presidents Trophy.  They now absolve themselves to the flight where they can be redeemed by battling for the glory of beating the other losers!

Forgone conclusions for the flight were Captain Ding and Doug Worth, but it was a shock not to see Paul Graham and Adam Sadler who ousted favourites Butch and Murray Hamilton on the 18th.  Lindsay Siegel and John Wood were doing it into the wind against Dieter Drescher’s 44 point effort.  None of the foregone talking made it to the course with the Dugan/Garnett team losing to a strong showing by Prebble Cup hero’s John Mulholland and Ross Jellard.  Tony Edgar’s fine round of nett 67 was not rewarded against Roger Clothier (nett 66) and John Bryant, while a tight battle followed with a narrow loss by Ted Ward and Les O’Leary to Mike and Brad Karl on the 18th

The next round now sees all the talkers and braggers in the flight to battle for the ultimate bragging right of being the best losers!  The main round will attract intense interest from everyone who is still in it!  Captain Ding is not brave enough to call a winner, but BS Hackett is prepared to back the Graham/Sadler team all the way.

From Saturday we have a few results.  The Captains Trophy winner (25+ handicap on nett) is Chris Bates with a 2 round total of nett 133.  The Maber Rose Bowl has to be played off between Hooky Howard and Ken Gallagher who both carded nett 62’s in this years medal play.

And from the scramble, Ren Wotton won on count back from Mike Karl on nett 66, 3rd Ross Jellard and 4th Maurice Tricker on 69.  Captain Ding won a ball and writes the article so get an honourable (?) mention (nett 72).

In division 2 Dieter Drescher won with nett 64, 2nd Roger Clothier 66, 3rd Tony Edgar 67 and Ted Ward and Hooky Howard with 68’s.

Presidents Draw
In the third round, Paul Graham/Adam Sadler play King Shanly/Dieter Drescher, Maurice Tricker/Mark Lawrence play Ron Taylor/Vic O’Rourke, John Mulholland/Ross Jellard play John Bryant/Roger Clothier and Don Riley/Neil Sinclair play Mike and Brad Karl.

In the flight, Butch and Murray Hamilton play Lindsay Siegel/John Wood, Captain Ding/Doug Worth play Henry Van Dyk/Stephan Thorby, Terry Garnett/Neville Dugan play Tony’s Edgar/Muller and Ian and Brett Worth play Ted Ward/Les O’Leary.

Ladies and Vets Report

Tuesday members played the 4th Round of Patrons Trophy.  In the 0-30 division Elayne O'Leary and Denise Hunt had 70 nett and Anne Kensington 71.  In the 30.5 - 40.4 Betty Swanson had 80 nett, Joan Spargo 81 and Bev Macartney.83.

The 9 Holer’s played a stableford scramble with Gillian Robbins winning on 14, Cecily Duxfield 13 and Lynette Bennett 11.

Vets on Thursday saw Dieter Drescher and Ren Wotton score 40, Gary Urbahn 38 and John Wood 37.  In the Ladies scramble Denise Hunt had another fine round with 43, Florence Jellard 34 and Marie Way 33.
