Putaruru Golf Club Report for Insertion in the South Waikato News Wednesday 17 August 2005.

Men's Report
The purging of the presidents trophy is all but complete.  Off to purgatory go the worst of the losers, and Captain Ding could be there on Thursday when they play the remaining flight match.

But in with a chance at the loftiest prize in the club’s trophy cabinet are King Shanly and Dieter Drescher who play Maurice Tricker and Mark Lawrence while John Mulholland and Ross Jellard play Mike and Brad Karl in the other semi.  In the best of the losers flight Terry Garnett and Neville Dugan plays Ian and Brett Worth.  Will they be joined by Henry Van Dyk and Stephan Thorby, or Captain Ding and The President?

On Saturday we played our monthly mini tournament along with the competitions matches.  Ross Jellard’s nett 65 only got a half in his match against John Bryant’s 42 point haul.  So off they go to injury time to slug out a result, Ross Jellard and John Mulholland winning on the 20th over John Bryant and Roger Clothier.  Tournament favourites Paul Graham and Adam Sadler did a World Cup semi impression faltering at the last with a loss to King Shanly and Dieter Drescher, while the Karl’s and the Maurice Tricker/Mark Lawrence combo both came away with close wins on the 18th or 19th

Saturday’s other notable scores were ladies nett winner Cheryl Jones 75, and Denise Hunt’s 33 points for the stableford prize.

Division 1 - nett winner Ross Jellard 65, runner up Tali Mulafia 69.  Stableford winner John Bryant 42, 2nd Maurice Tricker 39, Vic O’Rourke and John Wood 38, Mike Karl 37, Hooky Howard 36, John Mulholland 34 and Mark Lawrence 33.

Division 2 - nett winner Peter Smith 59(!!), runner up Neville Dugan 67.  Stableford winner Stephan Thorby 44, 2nd Dieter Drescher 40, Adam Sadler and Lindsay Siegel 39, Paul Graham 37, Tony Fitzherbert and Don Riley 36 AND Roger Clothier 35.

Two’s were scored by Doug Worth (8th) and Mike Karl (3rd).

Ladies and Vets Report
With the weather looking more promising 29 ladies turned up to enjoy their Tuesday golf, but alas the weather deteriorated and so did the enthusiasm of the golfers.  Captains Trophy (Rd 3) and Club Eclectic (Rd 4) were the competitions for the day.  In the 0-30 division Florence Jellard had the best score with 37 points, Irene McIvor 36 followed by Denise Hunt 35 on count back from Alison Riley and Joy Aitchison.  The 31-54 division was won by Bev McCartney with 35, Jeanette Burton 31 and Betty Swanson 29.  The only two of the day was scored by Raewyn Hoole on the 3rd.  The 9 Hole Ladies were playing their 6th Rd of the Putting Button with Lynette Bennett winning with 15 putts followed by Gillian Robbins 17 on count back from Cecily Duxfield.

The weather was ideal for the vet’s on Thursday with high scoring for both the ladies and men.  Alison Riley won the ladies showing signs that she is coming back to find her form with 40 points on count back from Bev McCartney and Heather Howard.  Wayne Mudford playing in the Cadet section scorched in with 46.  The “older” vets section saw great rounds with Stew Kensington taking top honours with 43, Hooky Howard 42 and Dieter Drescher 40.  Twos were scored by Don Riley, Keith Hunt, Butch Hamilton and Anne Kensington.  There will be no Vets on Thursday as the Ladies are hosting their Annual Tournament.

Coming up …
On Saturday we have the semi final rounds of the Presidents Trophy and flight and a scramble … Good golfing and good luck from Captain Ding!
