Putaruru Golf Club Report for Insertion in the South Waikato News Wednesday 26 October 2005.

Putaruru Super Liquor Mid Week
Thursday provided a testing day of overcast and breezy conditions.  The field of 40 players was down slightly from other months.  The scoring was, shall we say, distinguished, shall we say!  Winning the ladies was Heather Howard with a nett 66, runner up Betty Swanson 71.  The ladies stableford winner was Denise Hunt 39, 2nd Irene McIvor 35, and Cheryl Jones and Norine McPherson 34.

The men's nett winner was Prebble Cup stalwart, Ross Jellard with an august 65, runner up Butch Hamilton 67.  The stableford winner was Hooky Howard with 42 noble points, 2nd Ian Worth 38, Ron Jackman Kevin Verner (Tirau) also 38, and Ren Wotton 37.

The division 2 nett winner was Keith Hunt with a venerable 63, runner up Peter Smith 70.  Andrew Sadler won the stableford with an imposing 39, 2nd Roger Clothier 38, Tony Fitzherbert and John Mathis 37.

Two’s were scored by Ross Jellard and Allan Wallace on the 3rd and Lauchie Phillips from Tirau on the 13th

Grayburn Ross Twilight
Squalid is how you would describe the weather conditions, but this Thursday will be fine.  BUT there is no twilight this Thursday due to the coring of the greens.  The scoring in the Ambrose play varied from outstanding to major handicap overhauls required!  Winning with a nett 21 was Go Whitey, 2nd Rum Brothers 21.5, 3rd Dings Mob 23, and 4th Macabins 23.5.  Special mention has to be made of the absence of the Waotu-ites who shunned the rain in the fear that they might melt!  This is really strange for farmers and Holden lovers!

Ladies & Vets Report
With the regular competitions completed for the 2005 season, the ladies played in the Captain versus the Secretary's blood match.  With a lot of banter between the two "leaders" throughout the 18 holes, Capt. Cheryl's team were the victors by 9 points from the Mrs Young mob.  Such a slim margin.  It was great having the 9 holer’s playing in the field and contributing to the result.

Scramble results were Cheryl Jones 38 points Denise Hunt 36, Bev Macartney and Raewyn Hoole 35, Elayne O’Leary, Betty Swanson and Heather Howard all on 34.

9 Holer’s, Sue Urbahn 16, Dulcie McLean 15, Lynette Bennett and Cecily Duxfield 13.

Vets day had 34 in the field and they were grateful for a day that wasn't wet.  In the men’s draw there was some very good golf played.  Keith Hunt had a scorching round returning 45 points, Ross Jellard 43, Hooky Howard 42 and Butch Hamilton 41.

In the ladies scramble, Heather Howard would be pleased with her 42, Denise Hunt 39 and her partner in the N.Z Veterans Foursomes Tournament in Temuka next month Neroli Fisher who had 38.  The club wishes you both every success for that event.  Go Putaruru, you can do it again.

There will be no Vets tomorrow as the greens are being cored.

Coming up …
Saturday the 29th is our closing day, and we will play the Pritchard cup that day which is a mixed Ambrose format.  So EVERYONE has to come and play, we will make up teams as we go so that everyone gets put into a team … Good golfing and good luck from Captain Ding!
