Tokoroa New World Christmas Open
Well what a week, the annual Tokoroa New World sponsored tournament was a great success.  With a good sized field, and ideal, if a little challenging conditions, the nett winners in the 3 divisions (ladies and 2 men’s) were Jeanette Burton 65, Lance Hay 66 and Adam Sadler 65.  The nett runner up’s were Irene McIvor 69, Ross Jellard 67 and Henry Van Dyk 68; and the gross winners Denise Hunt 82, Butch Hamilton 76 and Don Riley 89.

The top stableford prizes went to Brenda Buckeridge 41, Stephen Thorby 42 and John S Waterworth 42.  The runner up’s were Neroli Fisher 38, King Shanly 40 and Tommy Houston 41.  Jenny Clothier, Rachel Young and Audrey Mathis came in with 37’s to complete the top 5.  In men's division 1 on count back, John Mulholland, Vic O’Rourke and Ron Taylor had 40 also, while in division 2 Taylor Te Whare and Tony Edgar had 38, and Brett Worth and Tony Muller had 37.

Two’s were scored by Alison Riley, Butch Hamilton, Roger Parry and Maurice Tricker.  The long drives went to Rachel Young, Lance Hay and Adam Sadler; closest to the pin Alison Riley, Maurice Tricker and Dieter Drescher, and the longest putt on 18 to Neroli Fisher, Tali Mulafia and Roger Clothier.

Finally, a thank you to Captain Ding’s helpers who did a top job in my absence and to our sponsor Tokoroa New World.

Grayburn Ross Twilight
What has happened?  Where have all these people come from, and what is it they are playing for?  Well it’s like this, pure and simple, the right to brag, to beat all the other teams and for Captain Ding to tell the rest of the South Waikato about it in the press!

First up we have 13 teams, and the winner’s this week were the Rum Brothers and Famous Five with 62’s.  In the individual ranks, Fern Taylor had 26, Jenny Smith 22 and Brenda Buckeridge 20.  Neville Dugan won the golfers with 25, David O’Brien 22 and Max Russell 22; and Mike Alexander won the non golfers with 25, Grant Kelsen 25 and Leon Duncan 24.

Thanks to Koro for running the night, AND the handicapper’s knife will be out on Thursday!

Ladies and Vets Report
Melbourne Cup Day at Putaruru Golf Club was another fun day.  A roll-up start from 10am saw a wonderful field of men and ladies out to enjoy the day.

After the golf, many "dressed" for the occasion, the theme had to be the first word starting with "M" and the second "C.”  People’s minds ran riot with one player sporting a necklace of uncooked macaroni and cheese slices; another as Master Chef and the eventual winner of the competition was Mother Christmas with her appropriate costume and over-size spectacles.  Following the great race, a mouth watering pot-luck dinner was enjoyed by those who stayed to enjoy the rest of the evening.

The results of the men’s scramble, Tony Fitzherbert returned a great score of 44, Gary Urbahn 41 and Ron Jackman 40.  In the ladies Heather Howard played out of her skin again with 44, Jenny Smith 43 and Irene McIvor 41.

In the 9 hole ladies, Elizabeth Howland had 17 points, Cecily Duxfield 13 and Wanda Lyon 11.  Two’s were scored by Cheryl Jones, Brenda Buckeridge and Ian Worth.

Vets day on Thursday saw Tony Fitzherbert with 43, Keith Hunt 42 and Ron Jackman 41.  Denise Hunt and Norine McPherson had 38 and Florence Jellard 37.

Coming up …
We have Vets and twilight on Thursday and a Ham and Chicken Mini open tournament on Saturday … Good golfing and good luck from Captain Ding!
