Putaruru Golf Club Report for Insertion in the South Waikato News Wednesday 30 November 2005.

Men's Report
The day started horribly for Captain Ding as he was duped into car pooling and ended up heading for Pirongia in a Ford no less for the wooden spoon day.  Captain Ding hoped this odious start to the day did not carry on to his golf!  40 plus thoroughly enjoyed the day, but for 2 people, the day did not fare so well.  John Mulholland had a sweaty hour of torture waiting to hear his fate on 28 points for the day, but was awash with sheer relief as Les O’Leary was named the recipient of the hallowed symbol of a diabolical day at the office!  Captain Ding suspects that George’s performance may have more to do with a faint memory of that horrid day Putaruru just about lost the final of the Prebble Cup to Tirau.  History now of course records a draw for that day, and a win in the rematch!

The honourable glories went to Merv Samuel, with a spectacular 47 points, Andrew Sadler 45, Keith Hunt and Tony Edgar 43, Neville Dugan 42, Rhys Burnett, Lindsay Siegel, Lance Hay and Chris Bates 41 and Hooky Howard 40.

On Saturday, the interesting format Captain Ding came up with for the scramble was torrential rain and cold conditions!!  16 were hardy enough to brave the day, with only one piking out after 9 holes due to the cold, which was very “Sadz” to say the least!  Wayne Mudford was first with 40 on count back from John Mulholland, Sean Samkin soothed his headache for 39 and Ross Jellard and Mark Lawrence 36.

Grayburn Ross Twilight
The wooden spooner’s returned from Pirongia nicely relaxed (shall we say), and more than a few had to go out and play another 9 holes.  Tony Muller and King Shanly were the only ones who remembered to bring their golf swing back from Pirongia, as they were the only 2 golfers to make a showing in the prizes!

We wont talk about the ladies result preferring diplomacy over public humiliation.  You may, however wish to check out the ribald detail on our website, www.putarurugolfclub.co.nz.  Top scorers in the golfers were Henry Van Dyk and Daniel Van Dyk on 22, Vance Carson, Mike Karl, Tony Muller, Adam Sadler, King Shanly and Sean Samkin on 21.  The winners in the non golfers were Bill Strange 25, Lindsay Strange and Paul Meyer 24, Damian Jaques 23, Tim McIvor 22, Vaughan Richmond and Matt Corrin 21, Ben Cross David Gill, Grant Kelsen and Jeza O’Rourke 20.

In the Business house competition, Go Whitey and MacDaddies tied for 1st with 63 each, Koro’s Krew and Stranglers on 61.  The Famous 5 lead the team standings with 14 points, Go Whitey 11.5, MacDaddies 9.5 Koro’s Krew and Stranglers both on 8.0.
