Putaruru Golf Club Report for Insertion in the South Waikato News Wednesday 01 February 2006.

Men's Report
Its been another great week at the Golf Club and the course has certainly benefited from the “light” dousing of rain that the course gratefully soaked up over Tuesday and Wednesday.

The match committee had there first meeting for the year and most things are now in place for the ensuing year.  Not that we will ever be accused of being over organised, but at least there will be some semblance of control in the way scrambles and events are controlled and run over the year.

And congratulations to Greg Worth for his fine showing in the 72 hole Kaimai Classic coming 3rd overall in the nett.  This is played at Omanu and the Mount, and had 80 in the field.

Grayburn Ross Twilight
You see a lot of funny things on a golf course, none more so than witnessing first hand the wheels come off a golfer’s game, and then literally his trundler.  Hapless was the only way to describe the forlorn look as this poor soul had to relegate his trundler to the rubbish on the 6th tee and carry his bag for the remaining holes.  Losing to Captain Ding would not have helped.

Because of the long weekend the field was a wee bit decimated by those playing touch, but there were still 52 in the field to slug it out.  Results had Jenny Clothier winning the ladies division on count back from Joy Aitchison and Jo Gaby all on 17 points.  Vance Carson won the golfers division with 23 points, 2nd Mike Karl 22, Ron Taylor 21, Chris Bates 20, and Wayne Mudford, Massey Rata, Henry Van Dyk and Robbie Wi on 19.

Brian Curd won the non golfers with 23, 2nd Richard Brown 22, Bill Strange, David Gill, Paul Myer, Ian Nelson 20, Bill Hedley, Jeff Mossong, Jeza O’Rourke, Lindsey Strange and Steve Williams 19.

There was a one off team’s scramble, Go Whitey were first with 59 on count back from the MacDaddies, 3rd equal were Koro’s Crew and the Layers with 58 points.  2’s were scored by Vance Carson on the 8th, Mike Karl on the 3rd and 8th and Ron Taylor on the 8th.

Tomorrow will be an Ambrose format and if you are not involved in a team then come along and join in with one of the other teams and have a crack, great fun.

Summer Cup
Saturday was the hottest day to be playing golf, but that was equalled by some stunning scoring.  Andrew Sadler had 47 scorching points to clean out division 2, 2nd Sean Samkin 44, Peter Smith 43, Tony Muller and Stew Kensington 42, Andrew Muller, John Craig and Wayne Mudford 40.

Lance Hay won division 1 with 40 on count back from Hooky Howard, Ted Ward and Ross Jellard 38, and Mike Karl and Maurice Tricker 36.

Congratulations to Peter Smith (87 points) and Florence Jellard (80) on winning the men’s and ladies summer cups.

Coming up …
We have the Grayburn Ross Twilight on Thursday, which is Ambrose and over the long weekend we have Waitangi weekend scrambles on Saturday and Monday.  The following Saturday (11th) is opening day playing the Lion Trophy mixed foursomes.  Don’t worry about organising partners as we will make up pairings as people arrive if they are not already organised.

We need as many ladies to come along so that we have a good field in the actual Lion Trophy division.  For the excess of men (nothing sinister meant in this comment) there will be a separate division to duke out a local derby for the odd fellows … Good luck and good golfing from Captain Ding!
