Putaruru Golf Club Report for Insertion in the South Waikato News Wednesday 5 April 2006.

Men's Report
The Van Dyk Classic produced some scintillating competition.  Firstly though, thank you to Van Dyk Furnishers for their generous sponsorship, and especially the effort put in by Sheryl Van Dyk and her team in organising an $8000 prize table.  Visitors from far and wide were very appreciative at the quality of the table.  But we wont talk ever again of the president’s “Speech,” just as well he can play golf.

The winner of the Van Dyk Cup and of division 1 was Tali Mulafia and Gay Pickrang, who downed last year’s winners David & Gaylene Purdon 2/1.  The other division winners were Greg Worth & Nikki Darroch, Brad Wilson & Jenny Smith, Ian Worth & Irene Orr, Frank Pickrang & Bronwyn Verner, Daniel & Ali Van Dyk, and Tony & Heather Edgar.  Full results are on the website.  However, the winner of the shootout was Bev Macartney, the 25th player to play won herself and very nifty washing machine and dryer package, worth $1000.

There are some thanks; To Brett, Marie and Danielle Worth for their work in the bar; To Gladys and Graeme Crickett and the team in the kitchen; And to Ron & Keith Hunt for the presentation of the course … great effort … well done and thank you again.  And finally, to you the players, the rain on Sunday did nothing to dampen the spirits or enthusiasm, thank you and come again.

Ladies
This week the Ladies competed for the Monthly Medal, won by Cheryl Jones with a 76 nett; and the Putting Buttons, won by Irene McIvor with 30 putts and Bev Macartney 33.

Lynette Bennett took top honours in the first round of the 9 holers Sue Bunt Salver with 34 nett.  She was followed by Ethne Dodd 37, and Dulcie Mclean 39.  The 9 hole Pennant team had their first loss on Friday, going down 22-14 to Hamilton 1 who are now leading the competition.  Putaruru is lying 4th with the next round to be played at Hamilton on Thursday 6th April.

Coming up on April 10th the Ladies have an Open Pairs Tournament.  There is still time to enter!
