Putaruru Golf Club Report for Insertion in the South Waikato News Wednesday 12 April 2006.

Men's Report
First up, I must commend the success of the handicap pennants team for making the finals, well done.

Next up the Prebble Cup beat Walton at Morrinsville, down 2.5 to 1.5 after the foursomes, the team ground out 5 single wins to win the match 6.5 to 5.5.

The championship pennants team lost against Tahuna playing at Tahuna, enough said!

Right, Saturdays had everything, gross, nett, stableford and matchplay.

The winner of the Bradshaw Cup was Barry Wallace winning 4/3 over Terry Garnett.  John Mulholland won the prestigious, counts for nothing, but still a win, in the Bradshaw flight against an artless King Shanly.

Barry Wallace now leads the Radd cup on 82 points, Neville Dugan 79 and Terry Garnett 78.

The Firestone mini tournament had 55 in the field.  Mike Karl had the best nett of the day and won the monthly medal, the Putaruru Hotel Cup (best nett in the first round of stroke play qualifying) and the first division with a nett 66 off a gross 65!

Barbara Simpson won the Ladies nett, Nancy McRae the Gross, and Maureen Shanly the stableford prizes.

In division 1; nett runner up Barry Wallace 68, gross winner John Mulholland 79, stableford winner Hooky Howard 41, Terry Garnett 40, Tony FitzHerbert 38, Paul Graham, Stew Kensington and Ian Worth 37.

The division 2 nett winner was Chris Bates 68, runner up Neville Dugan 70, gross winner David Hoyte 92, stableford winner Roger Clothier 39, Dieter Drescher and Rex Fisher 36, Richie Brown and Tommy Houston 35, Wayne Mudford and Andrew Sadler 34.

Captain Ding won nothing, but was not the worst score on the day.  He did win 4 prizes at Tirau at their midweek, one for golf (35 points), 2 prizes in the raffle, and a 12 foot two on the 186 metre par 3 6th!

Finally, Captain Ding plays Cape Kidnappers on Good Friday with Mike Karl and other local golfers, more on that next report!

A pre Easter scramble was played by the Ladies this week, with extra prizes of Easter eggs for the winners of the hidden holes.  The scramble was won by Shirley Wood with 33 points, D Hunt, H Howard, V Hamilton and J Smith all with 32 points.  The nine hole scramble was evenly divided with Sue Urbahn, G Robbins and S Dillon all with 10 points.  The hidden holes ere taken out by E Howland, J Grey (3), C Jones, V Hamilton, A Riley, J Aitchison, H Howard, J Smith, and J Aitchison.

Even a hot air balloon could not deter our nine hole pennant team as it landed on the Hamilton course, it was simply moved aside and play continued.  The team of Sue Urbahn, Dulcie McLean, Gillian Robbins and Elizabeth Howland won the round 20-16 to retain their 4th position.

The scores did not match up to the weather on Thursday with Tony FitzHerbert winning the men’s scramble on 36 points, K Hunt 35, and J Wood and D Drescher 34.

The Ladies were a little better, Norine McPherson with 37, A Riley 36, and F Jellard 35.

Coming up …
Thursday have the Vets playing.  Easter has club scrambles (no shootout) on Saturday and Monday.  For the ladies, Tuesday is the National Teams Competition, and the Sue Bubt Salver for the nine holers.  Thursday (18th) is Vets and the Super Liquor midweek.  Friday week the Wills Cup team head to Walton and the Nine Hole pennant team go to Ngaruawahia.

Saturday 22nd has the third round of the Radd cup and the first round of the TTT; please put names on the board before Easter Tuesday.  Finally, there will be no press report next week, until then … Good luck and good golfing!
