Putaruru Golf Club Report for Insertion in the South Waikato News Wednesday 26 April 2006.

Men's Report
We start this weeks report with the Putaruru Super Liquor mid week.  The nett winners were Christine McPherson (Tirau) 68, Kevin Verner (Tirau) 69 and Hooky Howard with a resplendent 64.  Speaking of Tirau, they are out of this years Prebble cup, losing their match on Saturday.  I understand their temporary green keeper Eddie Brown scored 1.5 of their 3.5 points total for the day, a bit a thrashing really!

Back to the mid week results, the nett runner up’s were Norine McPherson 72, Mark Lawrence and Chris Bates both 70.  The ladies stableford winners were Brenda Buckeridge 37 and Florence Jellard 36.  Ron Taylor won division 1 with 38, Rick Nankivell (Morrinsville) 37, Rhys Burnett and John Wood 36.  In division 2, Ben Shanly 39, Gary Urbahn 37, Dieter Drescher 34 and Rex Fisher 30.

Saturdays round of the TTT round saw President Doug Worth and John Wood downed by Stephen Thorby & Ross Higginson, while cousin Ian Worth & Les O’Leary were unceremoniously dumped out by cousin Greg Worth and Dieter Drescher.  The Radd cup winner was Barry Wallace with 82 points.

The scramble scoring was not that flash with a lot of scores (3 out of 4) not even playing to their handicap.  Greg Worth won division 1 with 39, Phil Kensington and Hooky Howard 37, Ted Ward and Ross Jellard 34.  Eric Hill won division 2 with 40, Dieter Dresher 39, Sean Samkin, Garry Campbell and Wayne Mudford 38.  Doug Worth and Stephen Thorby scored the only two’s on the 3rd.

The championship pennants played at Putaruru on Sunday.  The home team scored a win over Morrinsville and lie second on the points table for division 4.  The handicap pennants boys continued their beaten record by finishing 11th in the finals played at Thames and Te Aroha over the weekend.  Tirau’s only bright spot for the weekend was to finish ahead of Putaruru in 5th spot.

Ladies
The Ladies pair’s tournament on Monday resembled a mass hokey-tokey dance as it was jackets on, jackets off, umbrellas up, umbrellas down all over the course.  However the weather did little to dampen spirits and the field of 74 enjoyed their game although scoring was not the highest.  Joy Aitchison and Anne Kensington won the event with a combined stableford of 65, on a count back from B Staples & G Reakes (Pirongia), J McKenzie & L Natana (Kawerau) 64, V Hamilton & S Wood 63, on a count back from J McKenzie & D Cainey (Tahuna), and J Grey & J Spargo 62, on a count back from N Fisher & J Smith.  Debbie Cainey, Tahuna scored the only two for the day on the third hole and won fifteen balls for her effort.

Coming events; The Wills Cup team play Tirau at Walton on Friday, and the 9 hole Pennant team play Cambridge at Ngaruawahia.  Please note; the interclub with the Mount to be held at Tokoroa will now be held on Monday the 8th and not the 1st as shown in the book.

Vets
The Vets Pennant team had another good win at Tokoroa on Wednesday to put them top of the competition with Mangakino 30 points back, and Walton in third place.  Individual scores for the day were; Tony FitzHerbert nett 70, John Wood 71, Maurice Tricker 72, Ross Jellard 73, Hooky Howard 75 and Dieter Drescher not far behind.  The Vets scramble on Thursday was cancelled due to coring of the greens.

Coming up …
Thursday has the Vets playing and Saturday will see the second round of the TTT trophy played … Good luck and good golfing!
