Putaruru Golf Club Report for Insertion in the South Waikato News Wednesday 12 July 2006.

Men's Report
The greatly anticipated final of the Lithgow trophy was delayed from last Saturday with Dieter Drescher due to face Vic O’Rourke.  The final result was a hotly contested default!  The rigours of the flu gifted Vic O’Rourke the victory, which while disappointing, is a fair reflection of how diabolical this round of the flu is.  Tali Mulafia also won the Lithgow flight by default over Mark Lawrence.

The second round of the Stratson cup was played on Saturday with Richie Brown now leading on +8 from Barry Wallace on +7; Tony Edgar and Eric Hill are tied on +4.

Saturdays scramble was done on bogey with Barry Wallace winning division 1 with +4, John Mulholland +3, Hooky Howard +2, Terry Garnett +1, Tony FitzHerbert, Mike Karl, Ross Jellard, Tali Mulafia and John Wood all square.  Richie Brown took out division 2 on +4 on count back from Tony Edgar; Brian Curd +3, Eric Hill +2, Ted Ward and Garry Campbell +1.

Two’s were scored by Barry Wallace on the 13th, Mike Karl on the 10th and 17th, John Wood and Adam Sadler on the 3rd, and Ted Ward on the 10th.

Now the wooden spooner’s head to Reporoa to play the Waiotapu Valley track on Tuesday the 11th.  By the time you read this some poor unfortunate soul will have played well enough to win the honour and prestige that goes with winning the spoon.  Certain “concern” has been expressed that Captain Ding may well be in contention after a less than impressive showing at the Tirau Wealleans mid week last Wednesday.  I can assure you dear punters that it will be a cold day in Hades before Captain Ding capitulates to the temptation of playing that well!

To finish I would like to report that there were no air shots on Saturday, and that only 15 out of 38 in the field scored better than or equal to their handicap.

This Saturday we have Canadian foursomes, where both players hit off, pick the best tee shot, and then play alternate shots after that.  Quite a lot of fun and with more in the field makes for great camaraderie.

Ladies Report
The final rounds of the Uden and Lithgow trophies were played in damp conditions on Tuesday, although this did not deter some players.  Winners of the Uden Trophy for 0-30 handicaps were Anne Kensington 69, Denise Hunt 70 and Cheryl Jones 73.  The final round of the Lithgow trophy for 31-54 handicaps went to Heather Edgar 75 nett, with Darryl Mills and Jenny Clothier next best with 78 nett.

The 9 Hole Ladies played nett 3, won by Mairie Edmonds 34, on a c/b from Cecily Duxfield with Dulcie McLean third on 36.

It was a family affair for two’s with Heather Howard taking hers on the 8th, while daughter Michelle Thorby holed out for two on the 10th.

Ladies coming events; This Saturday is the Watson Plate mixed Canadian foursomes.  And Tuesday is the first round of the Captains Trophy and Eclectic, while the 9 holers will play stableford round 4.

Coming up …
Thursday is vets.  This Saturday is the Watson Plate, and we need plenty of ladies for partners in this Canadian foursome’s format.  There will also be a men's only division for the “leftovers” … Good luck and good golfing!
