Putaruru Golf Club Report for Insertion in “This Week”
Thursday 30 November 2006.

Grayburn Ross Twilight
This week we’ll start with the twilight report, but just quickly, the vets had played earlier in the day (Thurs. 23rd.)  Top honours went to Stew Kensington 44 points followed by Hooky Howard and Peter Smith on 42.  The ladies winner was Heather Howard on count back from Cheryl Jones on 36, next were Bev Macartney and Irene McIvor on 35.

To twilight, where a field of 74 were treated to a clement evening for golf.  There was some scorching scoring where Jenny Smith, who is the ladies handicapper, unbeknownst to Captain Ding heretofore, won the ladies with 22 points, followed by Muriel Savage and Fern Taylor on 21.

Tali Mulafia won the golfers division on count back from Ian Worth, both 23, Captain Ding, Brian Curd and David Hoyte 22, Vic O’Rourke, Mark Lawrence, Adam Sadler and Robbie Wi 21, Ted Ward and Jahrome Brown 20.

Kyle Savage won the non golfers with 26, Corey Luyton 25, Bill Strange 24, Greg Burnett, Damien Jaques, Doug Ward and Daniel White 23, Lindsay Strange, Ben Cross and Peter Motion 22.

It was determined by the match committee, that this particular evening, no two’s would be paid out, which bought out a pithy petulant and most self absorbed out of character response from one of the two getters.

Funny story, you know all this kafuffle about stolen golf shoes, well the would be burglars returned these to beside the drinks machine, probably after finding out who they belonged to.  For safe keeping the evidence was placed in cold storage, no one would ever think to look for golf shoes there!!  Well anyhow, the grateful owner was treated to a damp and cold 9 holes, for 22 points, this storage had the effect of nicely retaining Saturday’s rain water in tack until Thursday!

Firestone Business House
All teams were present and accounted for this week, however, the Stranglers have taken a strangle hold on the competition with yet another maximum points haul of 63, winning on count back from Go YT.  Third were D.O.A. 62, goodness only knows how this team from the back of beyond has found this sort of form, while 4th equal were Team Beaver, Cows and Cats and the Midland Scaffolders on 61.

Atop the leader board are the Stranglers on 24.5, Midland Scaffolders 15, Go YT on 14.0 and on 13.5 the Philip Street Team.

Men's Report
Saturday didn’t rain!  We had a full field of 39, 17 locals, and 22 visitors from Western Bays.

Now, is it true?  One of the winners purportedly had an air shot on the 14th, one Wood be loathe to name this respected golfer, would not one?

Winning division 1 on count back no less was John Wood from Hooky Howard, both 40; John Mulholland, Ted Ward and Ross Jellard had 36, Tracey Robinson 35 and Anthony Lecke 32.  In division 2, Don Riley 40, Adam Sadler 38, Peter Smith 37, Tony Muller 36, Stew Kensington 35, and Alison Riley and Eric Hill 34.  We only had one lady, and Alison did very well to hold her own!

Two’s were scored by Ted Ward on the 3rd and Stew Kensington on the 8th.

Now here is a dare, can this continuing festering blight that has dominated the news pages, no not the waterfront stadium, be kept off the pages for one week, we’ll have to wait and see!  You have no idea what this is all about, do you, well Captain Ding is not going to say anything factual, or otherwise about you know who, for one week … Unless there is something so inescapably news worthy as to demand objective and unbiased commentary.

Coming up …
Thursday has the Vets Christmas mini tournament, tee off from 9.30AM and $10 entry … That evening is the Grayburn Ross Twilight and the fifth round of the Firestone Business House team’s challenge.  Saturday is Firestone Pork n Bacon mini tournament … Good luck and good golfing!
