Putaruru Golf Club Report for Insertion in the South Waikato News Wednesday 23 May 2007.

Men's Report
It was around 2:00PM that the skies darkened and were shrouded in the rarely seen phenomenon of great gaggles of ungulate bristly mammals of the family Suidae winging it across the skies.  Yes, pigs on the wing were the order of the day as Duncan Gallagher and Captain Ding held on to their incredible run of form to beat Eric Hill and Tony Edgar in the final of the TTT Trophy, a 4/2 win on the 16th hole.

In the scramble, Butch Hamilton won division 1 with a nett 65, Hooky Howard and Brian Curd 70, Ted Ward, John Barr and Captain Ding 71, and John Mulholland 72.

In division 2 Steve Thorby won with a nett 67, Dieter Drescher 70, Peter Smith 71, Roger Clothier 72, Doug Worth 73 and Wayne Mudford 74.

Putaruru Super Liquor Mid Week

The nett winners were Jenny Smith 70, Stan Francis 69 and Andrew Sadler 65; Nett runners up Vere Hamilton 73, Ross Jellard 70 and Neville Dugan 67.

The ladies stableford winners were Michelle Thorby 36 and Audrey Mathis 33; Men’s Division 1 John Barr 39, Terry Garnett, Gary Ban and R Asiata 37; Men's Division 2 Peter Gardiner 41, John Mathis 39, Tony Edgar and K Lumsden 38.

Finally a big thank you to Jim, Marie and the team at Super Liquor for their sponsorship.

Ladies report
A busy week for the Putaruru Ladies began on Friday with hosting the Wills Cup Round 3.  Our team of Irene McIvor, Alison Riley, Cheryl Jones, Margaret Ranger, Shirley Wood and Audrey Mathis scored well against Walton.  Putaruru is now on top with 176 ½ points over Tirau on 175 and Tokoroa third on 169.  The next round will be held at Tirau on June 15th.  Good luck girls.

At the Championship Pennants final round at Walton on Sunday 14th, our Putaruru team finished 3rd in division 4.  This is the first time we have fielded a team in this event and the girls can be very proud of their achievement.

On Monday Putaruru held the weekday pennants.  Putaruru was pipped by one stroke by Kawhia.  Kawhia’s top player came home with a nett 67.  A good field of ladies turned out to support our teams in both events and enjoyed lovely autumn weather.  The green keeper and staff have our course in great condition.

Tuesday was the 3rd round of the Patrons Trophy.  In the silver division Irene McIvor came home with a 68 nett on count back from Judy Grey with Florence Jellard third on 71 nett.  Bronze division saw Norine McPherson first with a 71 nett, Vere Hamilton 73 nett and Heather Edgar 76 nett.  Two’s were scored by Judy Grey and Margaret Ranger on No. 3.  In the 4th round of the 9 hole Stableford competition, Lynette Bennett came first with 15 points on count back from Dulcie McLean and Sue Urbahn.
